Keating Wines

Beckstoffer Georges III Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford, Napa)

2008
  • 94 points, Wine Enthusiast, August 2011.......... "An ultrarich Cabernet that shows the pedigree of its vineyard.  It's dramatic in blackberry, cherry, plum, cassis, chocolate, anise and baking spice flavors, wrapped into a wonderfully soft, gentle tannins.  With a long, sweet finish, it should develop over the next 10 years."
  • 90 points, Connoisseur's Guide to California Wine, August 2011......... "Very nicely put together aromas redolent of herbs, currants, lavender and caramel lead into a supple entry followed by surprisingly tannic and coarsely textured impressions across the palate. Both very rich and somewhat dry in the finish, this wine demands a bit of a leap of faith that it will age out, but given its very successful vineyard, it is a leap that poses only the normal risks we all assume with young wine."
2009
  • 90 points, Wine Enthusiast, June 2012......... "To call this anything other than modern in style would be incorrect.  It’s soft and silky and direct in blackberry and cherry jam, chocolate and caramel flavors, although the finish is technically dry. Delicious and fancy, and will appeal to fans of ripe, sweet fruit, but it doesn’t have the structure for aging."

"Encomium" Cabernet Sauvignon

2008
  • 90 points, Wine Enthusiast, August 2011.......... "A rich, soft oaky Cabernet, forward and appealing in blackberry and cherry jam, cassis, mocha and olive flavors.  Shows the class and distinction of the vineyard sources in Napa and Sonoma."

"Montecillo" Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma Valley)

2009
  • 90 points, Wine Enthusiast, March 2012.......... "Generous in blackberries, blueberries and cedar, with a pleasantly meaty, smoky edge.  Quite fine in its own way, but a bit angular at this time.  Blame it on immaturity, and give this young Cabernet at least five years to mellow out."
  • Gold Medal, 2012 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

"Montecillo" Zinfandel (Sonoma Valley)

2009
  • 90 points, Wine Enthusiast, August 2011.......... "A very nice Zin, lusty and rich, with ripe flavors of raspberries, cherries, red currants, licorice, smoked meat and dusty baking spices.  It's a big wine whose fruits and tannins suggest pairing with smoky barbecue."
2010
  • Gold Medal, 2012 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

"Buchignani" Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)

2009
  • BEST OF CLASS, Gold Medal, 2011 Los Angeles International Wine Competition
  • Gold Medal, 2011 Sonoma Country Harvest Fair
2010
  • 91 points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine, June 2012........ "For whatever reason, Keating’s 2010 Zin represents a vast improvement over the ’09. It’s a pretty, polished Zinfandel, the kind called claret-style to distinguish its elegance and balance. Classic Dry Creek Valley, with wild berry, cola, sweet tobacco and spice flavors and briary tannins."

Rockpile Malbec

2006
  • Sweepstakes Gold Medal, 2009 Monterey Wine Competition
  • Gold Medal, 2010 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
2007
  • Double Gold Medal, 2010 San Francisco International Wine Competition
  • Gold Medal, 2011 Los Angeles International Wine Competition
2008
  • Gold Medal, 2012 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
  • 91 points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine, June 2012........ "What a delicious barbecue wine. It shows Malbec’s thick, sturdy tannins and California’s ripe, sweet fruit, in the way of blackberries, cassis and blueberries, with a savory streak of espresso. But it’s totally dry on the finish. Shows how well the Rockpile appellation ripens these big, full-bodied red wines."

Rockpile Petite Sirah

2007
  • 91 points, Wine Enthusiast, December 2009.......... "Captures the robust, fruity essence of Petite Sirah, in a balanced, richly tannic and ageworthy package. It’s completely dry, with complex waves of wild blueberries and blackberries, plums, mulberries, tobacco, leather, dark unsweetened chocolate and peppery spices. Good now, but will benefit from 6–10 years in the cellar."
  • Gold Medal, 2009 Sommelier Challenge

Sonoma Valley Merlot

2008
  • Gold Medal, 2011 Los Angeles International Wine Competition
  • Gold Medal, 2011 Sonoma County Harvest Fair
