2014 Keating Malbec, Rockpile

The Malbec fruit is sourced from the Rockpile AVA in northern Sonoma County. Just like my Petite Sirah, the Malbec vineyard overlooks Lake Sonoma, and sits well above the fogline giving the Malbec maximum sun exposure. The slightly cooler temperatures than the neighboring Dry Creek Valley allow for longer hang time and fruit development. 2014 was a nice growing season - warm with a few heat spikes that led to an early harvest. 2014 was also a fairly light harvest in the northern part of Sonoma County. This consistent Malbec also retained its typical stony, earthy flavor profile with notes such as tobacco, leather, and plum.

Cheers!
