2013 Keating 'Finvarra' Red Wine

This is the third vintage of my Bordeaux style blend, Finvarra. 2013 was a very warm year with a slightly shortened growing season, so the wine's style is more California than it Bordeaux (similar to 2012). After many blending trials, we came up with a blend mainly consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon (67%), complimented by Petite Verdot (16%), Merlot (15%), and Malbec (2%). All fruit coming from vineyards in Sonoma and Napa, hence the 'North Coast' appellation.

About the name -- In Irish folklore, Finvarra, High King of the Daoine Sidhe (pronounced Donna-Shay), is a benevolent figure who ensures good harvests, strong horses, and great riches to those who assist him.

My 14-year old niece, Caitlin Keating, created the label and will be producing a new version every year.

"From vineyards across both Napa and Sonoma, this blends 67% Cabernet Sauvignon with 16% Petite Verdot, 15% Merlot, and 2% Malbec. It's structured and herb-driven, with ample ripeness. Black fruit and cedar flavors dominate through the lengthy, peppery finish."
