2012 Keating 'Finvarra' Red Wine
This is the second vintage of my Bordeaux style blend, Finvarra. 2012 was a much warmer year with a long growing season, so the wine's style is more California than it Bordeaux (this was the opposite in 2011). After countless blending trials, we came up with a blend mainly consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon (66%), complimented by Malbec (26%) and Cabernet Franc (8%). All fruit coming from vineyards in Sonoma and Napa, hence the 'North Coast' appellation.
About the name -- In Irish folklore, Finvarra, High King of the Daoine Sidhe (pronounced Donna-Shay), is a benevolent figure who ensures good harvests, strong horses, and great riches to those who assist him. My 13-year old niece, Caitlin Keating, created the label and will be producing a new version every year.
